Will Baker Mayfield be healthy enough to play and win?

Baker Mayfield is clearly banged up right now, dealing with a torn labrum, broken humorous bone in the same shoulder the labrum is torn, a bum foot, and now a knee contusion.

We have known about at least a partial tear in his labrum since Week 2 when he decided to try and make a tackle after throwing an interception.

Mayfield’s play and future in Cleveland have been a hot topic as of late, so let’s address it together in this writing.

Not counting the people who openly root for Mayfield to fail so they can say “See! I told you so!” the fanbase is behind No. 6.

Here’s where that gets dicey for fans to decipher, so I’ll speak as to how I feel about the situation, which can be echoed on Browns Twitter by certain members of the fanbase.

I desperately want Mayfield to be the man in Cleveland for the next 20 years. I want him to win multiple Super Bowls and MVPs while wearing Brown and Orange. I want him to be the most successful quarterback ever.

With all that said, I want him to be consistent, which he has not been as of late. Against the Bengals, he was efficient and didn’t turn the ball over, which led to a Browns victory. Against the Patriots, he was the opposite after the first drive, which resulted in a three-yard touchdown to Austin Hooper.

Yes, he is injured, but no, that shouldn’t be an excuse people cling to in order to validate his poor performances or future contract. If he is “healthy” enough to take the field, he is healthy enough to not have his injuries define his play.

Nobody is questioning the mental and physical toughness or grit of Mayfield as he plays through the various ailments and a beat-up body. He is one tough S.O.B. no question about it.

Whether he plays on Sunday or not remains to be seen, but Stefanski is “confident” he will be able to play.

There are seven games remaining in the season and Mayfield has to step up in a big way in that span if he and the Browns want to succeed and potentially achieve their goals.
