Cleveland Browns Key player No. 2: David Njoku

The passing game of the Browns is all out of whack. Baker Mayfield is playing with a litany of piling injuries. Odell Beckham Jr. is now with the Rams. Jarvis Landry talked about not getting the ball enough.

The sky seems to be falling, but it can get better, right?

Again, it starts Sunday against the Lions. David Njoku has shown he can be a huge part of the passing game, yet he doesn’t get enough targets. Last week, he dropped a sure touchdown and had another drop later in the game. That is very uncharacteristic of the Chief.

Despite those drops, Kevin Stefanski and Alex Van Pelt should utilize Njoku more. He’s the best tight end on the roster and can hurt defenses in a bevy of different ways. Last year he improved his blocking despite wanting out of Cleveland during the summer.

Njoku currently leads the team in receiving yards with 352. He is someone who can be used as a stereotypical tight end and catch short passes and he is also someone who can stretch a defense, possibly opening others up for Mayfield to throw to.

This season, the Lions have done well against tight ends, allowing 38 receptions for 462 yards and two touchdowns. Njoku is someone who can add to those stats and he will be a key factor in the Browns going 1-0 for the week.
