Cleveland Browns snap count analysis shows how Ravens shut down offense
Data for snap counts, Ravens vs Chicago and Ravens vs Cleveland Browns
Data for snap counts is compiled by NFL.com for both Baltimore vs Chicago and Baltimore vs Cleveland. Position assignments (nose tackle versus defensive tackle versus defensive end versus edge rusher) varies depending on whose depth chart you use.
The Ravens, of course do not strictly abide by a classic 3-4 defense, so the terminology for what position is played by each Raven varies according to the formation. The Baltimore Ravens website was used as the closest thing as an authority, so if there are philosophical differences over the “real” position that each particular player plays the blame is with the Ravens front office.

(The Ravens didn’t need to cover three WR very often versus Cleveland, as you would expect.).
The major takeaway is that the big boys increased their snap counts, and it’s not just due to injuries. The Ravens had a true nose tackle on the field 47% of the time versus the Bears, and 92% of the time versus Cleveland.
Similarly, Baltimore fielded an average of 0.90 defensive tackles versus Da Bears, but versus Cleveland they were up to an average of 1.35. An outlier here is that 314-pound Khalil McKenzie was cut following the Chicago game.
Next, in case you were wondering whether the Browns unique lineup is the explanation for the Ravens’ shifts in personnel, we take care of that in the next page.
