Cleveland Browns Question No. 2 – Who will play in the back half of the defense?

Joe Woods job could be getting more and more difficult this week. With Grant Delpit playing better and better, and the return of Jacob Phillips, he can’t play eight guys in seven positions.

It may not be a big deal as Phillips will likely be on a snap count at linebacker so you will still see Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and Anthony Walker get most of the snaps. But moving forward there are going to be some difficult decisions.

Delpit, Ronnie Harrison, and John Johnson have been the three safeties when they go to the dime look, which has worked well, but that means a guy like Walker, JOK, or Phillips will be coming off the field.

Having too much depth is always a good problem, but I do worry that it will make it even tougher for Woods to get in a rhythm as a play-caller.

With the defense finally getting back to full strength, one thing is for sure, it’s time to turn up the heat. I am tired of sitting in coverage on third and long and watching opposing quarterbacks pick us apart.

At this point, I’m fine giving up the big play if the pressure doesn’t get there.  But the one game we brought a ton of pressure was Cincinnati, and you see how well that went for the team.
