Cleveland Browns Question No. 1 – Is Baker Mayfield healthy?

I’ll admit, I’ve really changed my tune on Baker Mayfield the last two weeks as the poor play has continued. I know he has a ton of injuries, and I know the offensive line hasn’t played the best, but if he’s hurt, he needs to sit out a week or two.

I get being the tough guy is his thing, but why are we paying Case Keenum so much money to sit on the bench if we never intend to play him? I’m really hoping with this week off he will be as healthy as we have seen him the last six weeks, but it likely will only take one hit to sit him back again.

I don’t ask this question to stir the pot on if the Browns should extend Mayfield. The fact is, Mayfield is going to be here in 2022 because it will be nearly impossible to get out of the contract.

As fans, we need to hope that he can prove himself, but also understand just because he is better than the last 20 years of crap, doesn’t mean we should sign him to a five-year deal.

The bottom line, a healthy Mayfield gives us the best chance to win, and winning is all that matters. If he truly is at 60-70 percent of his normal self because of injuries, let Keenum give us a better chance to win, and come back once you are healthy.

It almost feels like Mayfield is playing through the pain because he is afraid to lose his job.
