Bold Prediction No. 5: Baker Mayfield will play better

I’m not sure if this should be a bold prediction but considering where we are this year with the Browns quarterback and his lack of production, I’d say it is. A week’s rest will not heal Baker Mayfield’s multiple injuries. He’ll need an entire offseason — and some surgery — for that. We would all just like to see some more consistent play by the quarterback.

In his last three games, he’s only completed no more than 52 percent of his passes. Going 15 for 29 or 18 for 37 isn’t good enough to help this team win. There’s been a lot of debate about who’s more at fault for Brown’s failures on offense. Are the wide receivers dropping too many passes? Are they not running and executing the routes correctly? Or is Mayfield just inaccurate?

I’m under the opinion that it’s a bit of both. I’ve seen too many games with Mayfield slinging passes too high or wide or with no touch on the ball. It would do Mayfield a wealth of good if in the offseason he could master that little screen pass over the top of the defensive lineman. Right now, he still doesn’t have that touch and his teammates drop the passes or they’re thrown out of reach because of that inaccuracy.

Here’s hoping all these bold predictions come true because that means the Browns will be celebrating a win. Here’s also hoping that this team, regardless of the outcome can finish the season more unified and consistent in their efforts.

It’s been a tough season for coach Stefanski and hopefully, he’ll keep getting better along with his team.
