Cleveland Browns plummeting stock No. 2: Wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones

For the Cleveland Browns to be successful on offense, they need a strong running game and their receivers to take advantage of that success by catching passes when thrown their way, especially on play-action passes. Unfortunately, the wide receiver depth chart lacks any depth at all, and the players they do have playing aren’t taking advantage of these things.

Donovan Peoples-Jones was a sixth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, but and due to the team trading away Odell Beckham Jr. and the unavailability of Jarvis Landry, DPJ has been thrust into essentially being the number one option for the Browns on the outside. While being a good option that can have a solid NFL future, having him be anything more than a second or third option for an offense means that you are in big trouble.

On Monday night, DPJ struggled under the spotlight, dropping a big pass in the first half that would have been a big first down, and struggled at other times to get separation and haul in a few other passes thrown his way. While he did finish the game with 48 yards on four catches, his struggles with consistency will ultimately find him falling further down the depth chart next year and beyond.
