Cleveland Browns can still win the AFC North in 2021
By Greg Newland
Things haven’t gone the way the Cleveland Browns wanted in 2021, but if they get on a roll, they can still win the AFC North in 2021.
After winning 11 games in 2020 and getting a wild-card spot in the playoffs, the Cleveland Browns have only seven wins in 2021 with two games remaining and can still win the AFC North.
Believe it or not, it’s not even a far fetch scenario.
The first thing that must happen (the obvious), the Browns must win the last two games of the season vs. the Steelers and Bengals. That will move the Browns to 4-2 in the AFC North, kick the Steelers out of contention, and give the Browns a tiebreaker over the Bengals.
The second thing that must happen is the Bengals lose to the Kansas City Chiefs next weekend. The Bengals do get the Chiefs at home, but they are arguably one of the hottest teams in the league and have a dynamic offense that can’t seem to be stopped. Remember, there is only one bye in the playoffs per conference, so you won’t see any teams lay off the gas this year.
The last thing that must happen, the Ravens lose to either the Rams or Steelers in the last two weeks of the season. They get the Rams at home, but they are 11-4 and have been playing great football.
Baltimore is better than the Steelers, but that is a divisional game that can always go either way. The real wild card for the Ravens, will Lamar Jackson be playing quarterback? If he misses the game next Sunday, the Rams could easily win that game.
You hate to be at a point where you don’t control your own destiny, but let’s be honest, after next week the Browns could. A win and losses by the Ravens and Bengals (which is totally possible), and your Cleveland Browns could be playing (at home) the Bengals for a chance to win the AFC North.
I never thought 9-8 had a chance, but not only could they win the division, but they’d also then be hosting a home playoff game.
