Cleveland Browns resolution No. 1: Find some new Wide Receivers

In 2021, general manager Andrew Berry saw some deficiencies on the defensive side of the ball and then went out to correct them. He brought in three new players in the secondary with John Johnson, Greg Newsome, and Troy Hill being added.

He then added two linebackers with Anthony Walker coming over in free agency and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah being taken in the second round of the draft. As for the defensive line, they did lose Sheldon Richardson but added Jadeveon Clowney, Takk McKinley, Malik McDowell, and Malik Jackson.

Simply put, the Browns overhauled the defensive side of the ball and it’s been paying off in recent weeks. This unit is finally holding off some talented teams and keeping them in games. This should give us all hope that Berry will do the same for the struggling wide receiver corps.

This season, the top wide receiver has been Donovan Peoples-Jones who has 28 receptions for 483 yards and three touchdowns. Not a bad performance for a second-year player who was a sixth-round pick in 2021, but also not ideal for the No. 1 guy.

Cleveland needs to make sure they use both free agency and the draft — much like they did on defense — to address this issue. Yes, they will be bringing Baker Mayfield back in 2022 and if they want to get a fair and accurate assessment of what he can do, they need to make sure he has the talent around him to succeed.

Next. Mayfield comparisons to Brees might not be far fetched. dark
