3 Reasons the Cleveland Browns won’t move on from Baker Mayfield

Reason Baker Mayfield stays No. 3 – The injury in 2021
While I totally disagree with how the organization handled Baker Mayfield’s injury in 2021, I do think he deserves another chance because of it. Remember, he was dinged up in Week 2, and never fully recovered from the should issues along with many other dings along the way.
The experiment of seeing if Mayfield could play through the shoulder pain should have been over much sooner than it was. About the time the team lost to Pittsburgh in week eight the plug should have been pulled and Case Keenum should have been playing.
I know in week nine Mayfield has his best game of the season, but it was clear the prior three weeks how much pain he was in. After the one-week wonder, let’s not forget his next three week’s performances which included two losses and barely beating the Detroit Lions.
I know the press will say, “Mayfield wanted to play, he’s a warrior.” My response to that is, this is a business and not playing him is a business decision. I’m not saying he could have gotten hurt any further, but you destroyed his confidence which is now going to take some time to bring back.
Keenum was brought it at starting quarterback money, to start games if they needed him. The Browns needed him in 2021 and refused to use him.
