Cleveland Browns Free-agent option no. 3 – Chris Godwin, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Take a look at the teams remaining in the playoffs and you’ll see one common collective: they all have a talented quarterback and playmakers on the outside. While Cleveland fans continue to argue about whether Baker Mayfield can be considered one of those “talented quarterbacks,” there’s no debating that the team lacks the playmakers the teams remaining have.

One way to rectify that is to go out and grab one of the best wide receivers that could hit the free-agency market in Chris Godwin of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With many changes looming for the Bucs, including the possible retirement of Tom Brady, this could be the year that Godwin opts to leave and attempt to cash in on his recent success.

Godwin would fit in perfectly in Cleveland, and be an immediate upgrade over anything the team has had at the wide receiver position for the past few years. With the Browns widely expected to target a wide receiver early in the 2022 NFL Draft as well, adding Godwin to the mix would mean that the team could move on from the overpriced contract of Jarvis Landry, and build their team around the other young receivers and Godwin.

If Mayfield struggles with Godwin and another top draft pick at receiver in 2022, then it will be the final nail in the coffin for him and his career as a Brown. Giving him a playmaker like Godwin, however, should be more than enough to allow him to thrive.
