AFC North free agent to sign No. 3 – C.J. Uzomah, Tight End

The Cincinnati Bengals have a young cast on offense that is extremely talented. With planning ahead to keep that group intact, a guy like C.J. Uzomah may be a luxury they don’t think they can afford.

Uzomah isn’t on the radar of any team as an elite player, but if the Cleveland Browns wanted to move on from Austin Hooper, he could be a great backfill option.

Uzomah is equally as athletic as Hooper and had a catch percentage of nearly 80 percent with Burrow in the 2021 season. He certainly has potential, but I’m not sure he lived up to his 3-year contract worth nearly $6 million per season. With just over 800 yards and 8 touchdowns (in three years), I think the Bengals expected more.

Part of the issue in Cincinnati is there aren’t enough footballs to go around and allow him to perform. In Cleveland, there is a great opportunity for him to be the second tight end on the roster and get far more targets for increased production.

I don’t think Berry would want to spend much more than Uzomah made on his last deal, but there could be some interest if the team really wants to move on from Hooper.
