Cleveland Browns: 4 tight ends to watch in the Senior Bowl
Cleveland Browns Senior Bowl Tight End No. 1: Trey McBride – Colorado State
While his Colorado State Rams did not win many games in 2021 (3-9 overall, 2-6 in the Mountain West), Trey McBride had a sensational senior season and did a nice job of boosting his draft stock.
McBride had a monster season with 90 receptions for 1,121 yards, but just one touchdown. I’m assuming that if he had more touchdowns, maybe his Rams would have more wins. Nonetheless, that is quite the way to go out. To put his senior year in a bit more perspective, he had 74 receptions and 979 yards in his previous three seasons.
The 2021 Mackey Award Winner (awarded to the nation’s top tight end) is big and athletic and will be a welcome addition to any roster, especially the Browns should they decide to get rid of Austin Hooper. McBride measured in at 6-foot-3 inches and 249 pounds, with a wingspan of 78-inches, an arm length of 32 5/8-inches, and 10 1/8-inch hands.
Along with winning the Mackey Award – the same award Harrison Bryant won the season before being drafted by the Browns – McBride was a unanimous All-American and a First-Team All-Mountain West selection.
He doesn’t have a ton of speed or production after the catch, so basically, he would be a cheaper option than Hooper. He is the No. 1 ranked tight end in the draft class, according to Mel Kiper Jr.
