Cleveland Browns Potential Decimated Position No. 1 – Defensive End

The Cleveland Browns had a tremendous pass rush last season with the tandem of Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney. The two quickly become friends on and off the field and really caused a lot of havoc. I can only imagine what they would have been capable of if they had any pressure up the middle to collapse the pocket.

Not only is Clowney a free agent that will have a lot of interest, Takk McKinley who was an extremely effective third defensive end is also out of contract. The Browns could go from having a tremendous one, two, three punch at pass rusher, to just having Garrett. Don’t get me wrong, just Garrett is okay, but he certainly needs some help.

Many believe that Andrew Berry has Clowney as a top priority this offseason. It could cost some big dollars, but it’s certainly worth it. He was extremely productive last season and once again showed he can be an elite second option rushing the passer.

I hate to think about it, but the scenario where both are gone could happen. Remember, everyone wants pass rushers so teams are willing to overpay. If they don’t get either guy, they need to find an alternative in free agency, but with McKinley seeming like a luxury they can no longer afford, a defensive end in the draft is already likely.

There is no doubt this roster is talented and it’s easy to just focus on the rebound for 2022. But let’s not forget, if Berry doesn’t retain some of this talent, this roster could look totally different next season in a bad way.
