Cleveland Browns No. 3 free agent WR bargain: D.J. Chark

D.J. Chark might be the most intriguing wide receiver bargain in free agency. He’s also coming off an ankle injury this past year, but when one starts to look at his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars then you see a very reliable and consistent player that might be a great fit in Cleveland next season.

Before the ankle injury, he had two really good years with the Jaguars. In 2019 he caught 73 passes for 1,008 yards and eight touchdowns. Then in 2020, he had 53 catches for 706 yards for five touchdowns.

The Jaguars are going with a new coaching staff, and this might be a good point for Chark to look elsewhere. He was paid just over $2.1 million this past season and could see a significant pay raise in 2022.

Similar to Christian Kirk, as mentioned above, Spotrac.com has Chark’s next contract projected as $11.9 million. Again, a bit more than a player like Cedric Wilson, who was mentioned early but again less than the bigger payout the Browns have allotted for Landry next year.

Many of these free-agent receivers will be getting paid much more than they’re likely worth, but it’s a player’s market, and these three wide receivers, Wilson, Kirk, and Chark would all help the Browns stubborn offense.

If Cleveland were to sign one of these more bargain-free agent wide receivers and add a couple of new wide receivers through the draft, then the team would be a lot closer to getting back to playoff-contending.
