Day 3 Scouting Combine prospect No. 1 for Cleveland Browns to monitor: George Karlaftis, EDGE, Purdue

We saw on Thursday night just how good the wide receiver corps is in this 2022 NFL Draft. Cleveland absolutely needs to add a new starter, or even two, at the position and they were surely watching every prospect’s every move. But while watching, they might have realized that taking one at No. 13 isn’t an absolute must since there will be some serious talent when they’re on the clock in Round 2.

On top of that, they also seem to be willing to go after a big name in free agency with players such as Amari Cooper, Chris Godwin, and Mike Williams reportedly being on their radar. If that’s the case, they might want to consider adding a defensive end with their first pick, especially since this spot is not as deep as wideout.

One player who could be on their radar in Round 1 is George Karlaftis from Purdue. He’s widely considered one of the more NFL-ready edge players and Kyle Crabbs of The Draft Network says he might be the best power rusher in this class.

"“Purdue EDGE defender George Karlaftis might be the best power rusher in this year’s class. This is a prospect who exploded onto the scene during a breakout 2019 freshman season and has since pieced together another tremendous campaign for the Boilermakers in 2021. I’m most impressed with Karlaftis’ motor and close quarters combat.”"

General manager Andrew Berry will surely consider every option and that will include what to do if Karlaftis is there at No. 13.
