Cleveland Browns 2022 Quarterback Option No. 2 – Derek Carr

Another call the Cleveland Browns front office should be making is to the Raiders on the availability of Derek Carr. I’m still not sure why the team would want to move on from him, but some believe that they don’t think he is good enough to take them to the next level.

I would argue that Ryan is a better quarterback than Carr, but Carr fits the Browns system better and has a good enough skill set to take the Browns to the next level.

Carr is by no means a top-five quarterback in the NFL, but he still has four, 4,000 yard passing seasons and has never thrown more than 14 interceptions in a season. He has the athletic ability to get outside the pocket and make throws and could thrive in the Kevin Stefanski system.

With Carr only having one year left on his deal, the Raiders may not be willing to back up the truck full of cash like the Browns. A trade of Mayfield (and likely a pick or two) for Carr makes a lot of sense.

The Raiders get a guy with some potential and get a year trial before signing him long-term. And the Browns get a guy they think can be the answer, and Carr gets his payday.

The Browns will have to keep this roster elite to be a perennial power with Carr at quarterback, but there is reason to believe he is just enough better than Mayfield to get this done. Heck, Carr may even be willing to play out the final year of his deal to prove his worth. The worst case of that is the Browns pay slightly more for a guy they know can get the job done.
