Cleveland Browns Round 3 Pick: Sam Williams, EDGE, Ole Miss

Unless they add another defensive end in free agency, the Cleveland Browns are going to be in desperate need of help across from Myles Garrett in 2022. There’s a chance they could bring back Jadeveon Clowney, but until he’s under contract Chase Winovich could be the second starter.

While Winovich is a talented player, they will need more help which is why they go with Sam Williams from Ole Miss with their first of two picks in Round 3. Williams is a talented defender who had 12.5 sacks in a breakout season for the Rebels.

Even if Clowney does return for the Browns, a player such as Williams could make sense as the long-term solution across from Garrett.

Cleveland Browns Round 3 Pick: Phidarian Mathis, DT, Alabama

Another spot that still needs to be addressed is the defensive tackle position for Cleveland. Taven Bryan could end up being a steal as a free agent addition but they do need someone who can play the one-tech — which leads us to the selection of Phidarian Mathis.

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 310-pounds, Mathis is a big man who really developed as a pass rusher in his final season with Alabama. He can play either D-tackle position but his size and ability to shut down the run make him an ideal fit as the one-tech — although his versatility could also come in very handy for this defense.
