Cleveland Browns Free Agent Target No. 3 – Danny Shelton, Defensive Tackle

I’m not sold that Danny Shelton is the exact player that Berry should target, but the bottom line is, that the Cleveland Browns need to do something at defensive tackle. They added Taven Bryan who is a great pass rusher, but they still need a big guy who can clog up holes against the run.

I would love to see them be aggressive and go after a guy like Calais Campbell, Akiem Hicks, or even Sheldon Richardson, I’m just not sure that Berry will be willing to spend the money on a guy like that.

With Shelton, you could likely get a two-year agreement for a very small amount of money and he could be extremely effective. With any of the other three names above, you are looking upwards of $7 million-plus for only a one-year deal.

I don’t hate the one-year deal either. Defensive tackle is a position that Berry can address in the 2022 draft with a few really nice prospects, but in a “win-now” mode, I don’t think you want to plan on a rookie for instant production.

Jordan Elliott and Tommy Togiai are two nice young tackles on the roster already, but neither has shown that they are ready to play a large percentage of snaps and be extremely effective.
