Baker Mayfield Trade Location No. 1 – Seattle Seahawks
In these 10 seconds, the only real trade destination that makes sense for Baker Mayfield is the Seattle Seahawks. Yes, they got Drew Lock in the Russell Wilson trade from the Broncos, but I can’t think they are sold he is “the guy”.
Teams never say it out loud, but I’m thinking the Seahawks may be in full re-build (tanking) mode for a quarterback like Bryce Young from Alabama in 2023. They have already lost their best two players in Wilson and Bobby Wagner, and I would not be shocked at all to see D.K Metcalf moved who is in the final year of his rookie deal.
Mayfield will want to go to Seattle because that is the one place he is the clear starter from day one, but there are certainly going to be some challenges. Remember, he only won seven games last year and had one of the best rosters in the league. I know he was injured, but you still can’t overlook the facts.
The rumors are that the front office of the Seahawks loved Mayfield coming out of college. If they can land him for next to nothing in a trade, they may be willing to give him a two-year deal and tell him to trust the process for a season.
2023 may be ugly, but if they can scrape together a few wins, they can build in the draft and possibly lure in some free agents next offseason as they will have plenty of cap space.
Right now the options are slim for old number six, I wouldn’t say any of the above options are great for him, but at the moment it should be what he and his agent are pushing for.
