Baker Mayfield: 3 teams that would be stupid not to trade for Browns QB
By Greg Newland
Team that should trade for Baker Mayfield No. 1: Seattle Seahawks
The trade partner that continues to make the most sense for the Cleveland Browns is the Seattle Seahawks. Not only did they have a strong interest in Baker Mayfield before the 2018 draft, but they are also without a quarterback after trading Russell Wilson.
At this point, it feels like they are just waiting for the price to continue to go down. Rumors started in the beginning that the Browns may get a first-round pick, and now I think they would be happy with a fifth-rounder even in the 2023 draft.
At this point, they just don’t want to be on the hook for his salary.
There’s no doubt that the Seahawks are entering a rebuild, but they are also a franchise with a storied past and they will want to keep the losing to a minimum. They acquired Drew Lock in the Wilson trade, but I don’t see much excitement from anyone if he is the opening day starter.
I originally expected the Mayfield saga to be over by now, but the league has made it clear they don’t want to pick up that guaranteed money. I think there is a good chance it gets done during or shortly after the draft, but teams could force the Browns to release him so they can sign at a dramatic discount.
Good or bad, someone will get a highly motivated Mayfield for the 2022 season.
