Cleveland Browns 2022 Starter replacement No. 1: Anthony Walker, Linebacker

I was a bit surprised when the Cleveland Browns decided to bring back veteran linebacker, Anthony Walker. After a slow start to the 2022 season and dealing with a few nagging injuries, I thought he closed the season very strong.

My surprise came because the defense wants to focus so much on having five defensive backs and only two linebackers on the field. After the strong showing of Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and the return of Jacob Phillips at the end of the season, it feels like it may be difficult for Walker to see the field in 2022.

One thing worth noting is both JOK and Phillips have had injury concerns, so you can never have enough depth at the linebacker position. My guess is Berry was able to convince Walker he will likely see a ton of snaps because one of those guys is about guaranteed to miss at least a few games.

It also appears the market for Walker was a bit softer than expected. I think he took the one-year deal he did with the Browns because he knows he has a chance to win and that’s important to him.

I like having a guy like Walker on the roster, but I think that Phillips and JOK have far more talent and should be the future of this roster.
