Cleveland Browns Free Agent pick up No. 3 – Akiem Hicks

The Cleveland Browns have bolstered the defensive line with young talent and continued that in the 2022 draft when they pick up Perrion Winfrey in Round 4. However, they are still missing a veteran presence that can be elite at stopping the run.

I always loved the idea of adding Akiem Hicks, but originally anticipated his asking price would be far too high for the Browns to entertain. Hicks has been in the league for 11 seasons and has played for three different teams.

There’s no doubt that he is on his farewell tour, but he could be the perfect solution for the Browns on a one-year deal. He will have the ability to give you 20 to 25 snaps per game, be a major disruption in the running game, and help mentor some of the younger guys and develop them into better players.

In the last three years, Hicks has missed more than 15 games because of injuries which is a concern but remember, the Browns won’t need him on the field every single play. Staying well-rested and keeping his body fresh should help him avoid injuries.

With the market remaining cool on Hicks, a one-year deal with a team that has a great shot at the playoffs makes too much sense. I hope to see this deal get done before the start of the season.
