2022 Cleveland Browns: 4 players with a lot to prove
By Greg Newland
Cleveland Browns player with something to prove No. 1 – Grant Delpit
When the Cleveland Browns drafted Grant Delpit at pick N o. 44 in 2020 every single analyst in the country talked about the steal they got. Had Delpit gone in the 2019 draft, there is a good chance that he would have been taken in the top 15.
Instead Delpit stayed at LSU for another season (where he won a National Title), but a late-season ankle injury really limited his production. He refused to miss game time and instead his draft stock took a hit.
The next bump in the road came during training camp of his rookie year. Very early in the process, he tore his Achilles and was forced to miss the entire season.
After healing up for the start of the 2022 season, the Browns broke him in slowly, which was the right thing to do. Delpit had a lot of success rushing the passer and showed that he still had the tackling ability like in 2019.
Delpit has the size to move around as the fifth defensive back on the field and really thrives at the rover-type position. After a decent showing in 2021, expectations will be higher than ever in 2022. Fans see it as the learning curve behind him, and it’s time to see that guy that was once a top-15 prospect.
With the Browns already loaded in the secondary, I do expect him to have a huge year. It’s important for him to stay healthy and be utilized in the right way.
A down year in production would leave fans extremely disappointed.
