Baker Mayfield Trade Option No. 2 – Seattle Seahawks

Back when Baker Mayfield was picked No. 1 overall by the Cleveland Browns, there were rumors that the Seattle Seahawks had discussions with the Browns for the pick. In return, the Browns would have received Russell Wilson who was recently traded to the Denver Broncos.

So not only are the Seahawks in the market for a quarterback, but they also loved Mayfield coming out of Oklahoma.

So why not make a deal now?

For one, the Seahawks are in a full rebuild mode. They also have a good amount of dead cap in 2022 but could still easily get the deal done. But they know if they sit back and wait, there is a good chance that Mayfield will just be released, and they can sign him for a much cheaper price.

Obviously, they would be competing against all teams if that were the case, but the demand for Mayfield still won’t be that great coming off shoulder surgery and a very bad year statistically.

The Texans are a team that has been bad in the past, so fans will be more accepting of a down year. But that will not be the case in Seattle if Drew Lock struggles early at quarterback.

With so much success in recent history, things will turn ugly quickly so I’m not sure why they wouldn’t at least take a chance on Mayfield.

Again, all it would take is a late-round pick and seven to 10 million in cap space to get a one-year rental on a guy who has shown he can play at a high level. If the Seahawks come back to the table, the Browns should try and get a deal done.
