Former Cleveland Browns player No. 1 – Derek Anderson, Quarterback

With all the quarterback questions in Cleveland right now, I’m not sold that Jacoby Brissett is going to be able to accomplish anything near what Watson could. The organization is in a really tough spot where they have no idea what Watson’s availability will look like in 2022, but they have a roster that is loaded with talent.

I’ll be honest, I wanted to put Kelly Holcomb on this list, but he really wasn’t all that successful as the Cleveland Browns starter. We all just remember that one playoff game where he threw for 429 yards and three touchdowns. But unfortunately, the Browns gave up a 24-7 lead and lost the game.

Then my mind went back to the magical 2007 season. Where I’m not sure the Browns beat one team with a winning record, but Derek Anderson led this team to a 10-6 record but just missed the playoffs.

Anderson would be perfect for this 2022 team. I don’t need him to be my long-term answer, but the team does need one breakout year. Anderson had a cannon, and he wasn’t afraid to use it, similar to Brett Favre there was never a throw he didn’t think he could make.

That will lead to a few turnovers, but also a few absolutely amazing throws that just put you in awe. Berry has put together a fantastic offensive line and running game that would suit Anderson well.

I think we would all prefer to have Watson at quarterback in 2022, but at this time I don’t think anyone is confident in that.

With civil suit trials set for after the 2022 season, it will be interesting to see how the NFL sets its punishment.
