Cleveland Browns 5 best trade chips as they prepare for 2022 season
By John Suchan
Cleveland Browns trade chip No. 2: RB, D’Ernest Johnson
In Cleveland, D’Ernest Johnson is the third running back but he could potentially be a starter elsewhere. While the team might get more in return if they traded Kareem Hunt, trading Johnson would still earn a pretty good return, especially with so many NFL teams lacking a run game. Many other teams don’t have the depth the Browns have at the running back position.
Cleveland just drafted Jerome Ford from Cincinnati and they also have Demetric Felton and John Kelly vying for playing time.
Johnson is likely a very attractive trade chip because he’s still young and looking to be a new breakout star in the league. Teams like the Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs would be potential suitors for Johnson.
Cleveland Browns trade chip No. 1: Greedy Williams
Cornerback Greedy Williams would be a good trade chip for the Browns because this is another position where the depth on this roster is deep. While Williams came back to the team last season and showed signs of good play for the former second-round NFL Draft pick in 2019, he could be worth some good return if the Browns were interested in trading the young talented player.
He’s in the last year of his initial contract and would become a free agent next offseason if he doesn’t get a new contract with Cleveland. This could be one of those late moves right before the regular season starts especially if another team had a starter go down. Williams could likely start for many teams in the league.
With the team’s depth that includes Denzel Ward, Greg Newsome, A.J. Green, and newly drafted Martin Emerson, Cleveland would still be in good shape if Williams went elsewhere in a trade.
While the Browns are building toward a new run to the playoffs next season, be aware of these potential trades on the horizon.
