Browns Pairing No. 2: Denzel Ward and Greg Newsome II, CBs

Greg Newsome was drafted a year ago to be the other end of a great pairing with veteran corner Denzel Ward.

This season, the team has been trying out Newsome more in the slot and in the interior of the defense rather than outside. The Browns also drafted Martin Emerson from Mississippi State and they already have A.J. Green and Greedy Williams to potentially play on the outside.

Regardless, Newsome and Ward look to help make the Cleveland secondary even more difficult to go up against this season.

Ward was recently ranked as the second-best cornerback in the league behind only Jalen Ramsey of the Los Angeles Rams, according to Bucky Brooks of the NFL Network.

Last season Ward had three interceptions including a pick-six that went for 99 yards against Cincinnati. Look for him to continue to thrive with this solid secondary. And his teammate Newsome should have a great second season.

He certainly didn’t play like a rookie last year and is a very confident player. In recent PFF rankings, Newsome finished fifth in the NFL in defending in single coverage with a score of 73.6. His teammate Ward actually finished third with n 88.5 score. This all bodes well for the pair next season.
