Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins (85) catches a pass ahead of Cleveland Browns cornerback A.J. Green (38) in the first quarter of the NFL Week 9 game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cleveland Browns at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021. Cleveland led 24-10 at halftime. /

No. 2 – A.J. Green, Cornerback

With the Browns trading Troy Hill back to the L.A. Rams, many expect Greedy Williams or rookie Martin Emerson to step in as the slot corner. That makes a lot of sense as Williams did play well towards the end of last season, but I think Joe Woods will have different plans.

A.J. Green was a highly touted undrafted free agent in 2020, and he has continued to show flashes of greatness in his two years with the Cleveland Browns. After remaining on the practice squad for much of 2022, Green appeared in 12 games in 2021 where he had 21 tackles and an interception.

I think Williams will be the day one camp starter at the nickel corner, but I think by the start of the season Green could take this spot over. He has some length at 6-foot-2 inches but has the hips and athleticism to be on an island with a slot receiver.

Remember, Denzel Ward and Greg Newsome have struggled with injuries throughout their careers, so Williams will likely be able to get a lot of snaps on the outside. I know these guys are able to move around, but with Greedy being so limited in his NFL snaps to this point, it may be best to have him focus on one position for now.
