Cleveland Browns: 3 important storylines heading into 2022 training camp
By Greg Newland
Cleveland Browns Storyline No. 1 – Who will be the Week 1 quarterback?
Hopefully, the Cleveland Browns will have an answer soon than later (likely next week), on the Deshaun Watson suspension. We have gone back and forth from four games to indefinite suspension, to no suspension, so I hate to speculate and waste time.
It feels like Watson will be available at some point in 2022, but I find it hard to believe there will be no suspension unless they count missing the entire 2021 season as part of his punishment.
So far in mini camp, it sounds like the Browns practiced as if Watson was the guy. Jacoby Brissett was brought in to be the backup, but he continued to only take second-team reps. Now, if Watson is suspended for any portion of the season, can Stefanski and the cast have Brissett ready to keep this team competitive.
There’s some belief that if the Watson suspension is for more than half the season, you may see Berry and the Browns get active in the trade market once again for a guy like Jimmy Garoppolo. It would be difficult to bring a guy in that late, but he certainly has a winning track record and could bring great value to the Browns.
I’d be lying if I said I know what’s going to happen, but one thing is for sure, there will be a lot of buzz over the Browns starting quarterback in the next few weeks.
