No. 1 – Jack Conklin

Perhaps the worst deal coming into the 2022 season for the Cleveland Browns is for the right tackle, Jack Conklin. Again, it’s not that Conklin can’t play, but now there are questions on if he will be healthy for the 2022 season, and if he will ever be the same caliber player after a torn patellar tendon in week 12 of the 2021 season.

Conklin is only 28 years old, but injuries have become a bit of a consistent trait for the former All-Pro player. With an $11 million cap hit in 2022, Conklin is another guy who has multiple void years and won’t be on the Browns roster. Over the next two seasons, Conklin will be paid $9 million by the Browns organization and could be sitting on a beach somewhere.

Let me be clear, the Browns need Conklin back and healthy this year. I’m the first to say that Mayfield wasn’t the most talented quarterback in the world, but the injuries to the two tackles last season made things far harder for him with constant pressure off the edges.

I hope the big man can recover from an extremely difficult injury, but the Browns will be in a tough spot on multiple fronts if not. One, they will have a huge void at tackle to fill. Two, they will have far too much money tied up in a guy that can’t play.
