Will Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt break 1,000 yards each in 2022?
The Browns have the best running back room in football with Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt. Will the two stars finally break 1,000 yards each in 2022?
It is well known that the Cleveland Browns have a run-heavy offense centered around Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt. Kevin Stefanski’s offense is expected to evolve with the addition of Deshaun Watson, but Chubb and Hunt will still have a big role.
Ever since the Browns signed Hunt in 2019, everyone has wanted to see two things: the two backs on the field at the same time and for both of them to break 1,000 yards in a season. They both have the talent to do so, with Chubb arguably being the best running back in football and Hunt being a top 10 back.
Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt came close to making history before
2020 was the season where the dynamic duo got the closest to going over that 1,000-yard mark. Chubb finished with 1,067 yards and Hunt finished with 841 yards. The biggest issue they have faced is staying consistently healthy.
Chubb missed 4 games in 2020 and 3 games in 2021, while Hunt missed nearly half the season in 2021. For starters, they will need to play every game in 2022 in order to break 1,000 yards each. Beyond that, it will be up to Kevin Stefanski to effectively use them an even amount so they can get the yards they need.
Chubb and Hunt complement each other very well. They both possess elusive and bruising traits while also having elite breakaway speed. However, Hunt always seems to run with more intensity and anger than Chubb. They’re similar but different enough that defenses have a hard time game planning for both.
It also helps the career longevity for both of them to split carries every season. Chubb’s career high in carries is only 298 in 2019. If they each can average 200 carries a season, it could lead to them staying in their prime longer.

The main reason both could rush for 1,000 yards this season is the fact that this is the final year of Hunt’s contract with the Browns. He has said several times that he wants to stay with the team, but it’ll ultimately come down to him playing an entire season with great production. With an analytical front office, it’ll be challenging to convince them to keep two expensive running backs, but they might be open to it if Hunt puts up big numbers.
Hunt might push himself more than ever because of the contract year and wanting to stay in Cleveland. If he does that and stays healthy, the rest will fall into place.
Chubb is almost guaranteed a top 5 campaign due to his talent alone, but he needs to play an entire season. If they both do that, the chances of breaking 1,000 yards each and remaining the top running back duo in football are very high.
