Cleveland Browns bad trade No. 2 – 2017, Demario Davis

One position the Cleveland Browns have seemed to lack in the last decade is linebacker. Joe Shobert is about the best they have had, and he was a prime example of a decent player on a horrible defense that was made to look better than he really was.

However, for one season the Cleveland Browns had one of the best in the league. After finishing his rookie deal with the New York Jets where he spent his first four seasons in the league, Demario Davis signed a two-year deal to come to Cleveland.

Davis had 99 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble, and seven tackles for loss but was a part of the 1-15 team from the 2016 season. Part of me wonders if Davis just wanted out of a bad organization, but the trade they made to get Calvin Pryor and send Davis back to the Jets was terrible.

Not only did they give up an all-pro talent in Davis, but they also acquired a guy who would never play a snap. The Browns waived him before the start of the 2019 season and he would play a few games in Jacksonville before exiting the league for good.
