Rookie No.2: Alex Wright, DE

Another third-round pick this year for the Browns was defensive end Alex Wright, from UAB. Before Jadeveon Clowney re-signed with Cleveland, Wright might have been thrown into the mix sooner than later.

But now, Wright can make an impact but in more of a limited role at the start. Bringing him along a bit slower will likely pay off in the long run. Having Wright learn from the best in Clowney and Myles Garrett can’t hurt.

Wright’s upside is tremendous in the long run. He’s a huge 6-foot-7 and still growing into his frame. He has the ability to be a massive pass rusher like Clowney and Garrett. He has good skill already at rushing the quarterback from the inside or the outside.

He’ll get plenty of chances this season to make a name for himself. I imagine the team will work him into opportunities early so that Wright will be able to take advantage of his skill set. Seeing Wright get five to six sacks wouldn’t be a surprise at all.

Rookie No. 1: Perrion Winfrey, DB

Perrion Winfrey is likely the rookie to have the most opportunity to be a starter on the defensive line from Week 1 of the season. He was drafted in the fourth round but was considered a steal by the Browns getting him there as some had projected him being drafted much higher.

Cleveland has had trouble finding defensive tackles as of late, and Winfrey will compete with Jordan Elliott and Tommy Togiai for stating snaps next to Taven Bryan.

Winfrey’s outgoing personality caught the eye of the fans initially and recently did sign his rookie contract, meaning he will be ready to go for camp.
