Cleveland Browns: 5 Bold predictions as training camp begins

Bold prediction No. 4: Perrion Winfrey wins the starter job on the defensive line
Cleveland has several weak areas on the team including defensive tackle. While they have great defensive ends in Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney — and some solid cornerbacks including Denzel Ward and Greg Newsome III and linebackers in Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and Anthony Walker — the tackle position on the line has been an issue in recent years.
Perrion Winfrey was drafted out of Oklahoma with the idea of strengthening that position. He certainly acted as though he was excited to be here and do everything he could when he was drafted a few months ago. He had a nice college career and some in the NFL were surprised he fell to the fourth round of the draft.
He could be the steal of the draft for the Browns, but first, he needs to win the starting job for Week 1. I expect him to do that as long as he stays healthy. He hadn’t signed his initial contract with the team until late this past week, but now he’s locked in and ready to go to work.
Jordan Elliott and newly acquired free agent Taven Bryan look to be the front runners for the position along with Winfrey. Elliott is entering year three with Cleveland and Bryan is a former first-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars back in 2018.
Tommy Togiai, out of Ohio State, and veteran Sheldon Day are all there competing too. So, the road for Winfrey to get the green light to start will be a challenge for him.
