Top 10 Cleveland Browns of 2022: Where does Nick Chubb land?
By John Suchan
No. 3 Deshaun Watson, QB
The new franchise quarterback of the Browns has instantly put the team back in the conversation for Super Bowls. The team hasn’t had a legitimate top 10 quarterback on their team for a very long time. You’d have to go back to the days of Bernie Kosar and Brian Sipe to even consider how good Watson is compared to the rest of the league.
There are questions at the moment about a potential suspension for Deshaun Watson because of some off-the-field issues but that still hasn’t been determined.
Some have downplayed how good Watson is overall and quickly jump to a comparison of some stats between him and Baker Mayfield. While that can be discussed, and things like their overall winning percentages look similar, there are some key differences in stardom and skill set.
In Watson’s last season with Houston, he threw for 4,823 yards, which led the NFL that year, and completed 70 percent of his passes. He also had 33 touchdowns thrown to only seven interceptions.
Mayfield’s best year was throwing for 3,827 yards, but he also had 56 interceptions thrown in his career and his best throwing completion percentage was 64. Watson has thrown 104 touchdowns to only 36 interceptions in his career.
Regardless of comparisons, Watson is here to stay, and he immediately makes the Browns contenders again.
He’s been in three Pro Bowls to this point. He was on the NFL All-Rookie Team in 2017 and has been listed as an NFL Top 100 player his whole career. He’s been the NFL Player of the Week five times and player of the month two other times.
Now in Cleveland, Watson will have a plethora of talent around him. Having the opportunity to throw passes to Amari Cooper or throw a screen pass to Kareem Hunt will only make things even better for Watson.
