Prospect No. 2: JL Skinner, S, Boise State

The Browns secondary got better last season but it’s still an area of the team that needs work. JL Skinner, from Boise State, would be an appealing draft pick who could help shore up this area of concern. He’s been projected as one of the best safeties in this draft class and decided to return for his senior season — and he should get more and more attention as the 2023 NFL Draft approaches.

He has great height at 6-foot-4 and has great speed as well as the ability to take the ball carrier down with authority. He finished with 92 tackles including seven for losses this past season. He also picked off two passes, forced two fumbles, and recovered three other fumbles.

He is a stud safety in the Mountain West Conference and was a second-team conference selection last year. With his return as a senior, he may be risking a bit in not entering this past draft but getting another campaign under his belt to work on his skill set could make him an even higher draft selection in 2023.

Cleveland currently has a veteran safety returning for them in Ronnie Harrison, Jr. who re-signed with the team after exploring the free agency market. However, he could be on the move after this season so continuing to find a player Skinner could pay dividends in the long run.
