4 Former Cleveland Browns still looking for a new home in 2022
Former Browns Player No. 1: Odell Beckhm Jr.
In a perfect football world, Deshaun Watson would never have gotten caught up in the off-the-field issues and Odell Beckham Jr. would return to the Browns at some point this season with a new quarterback slinging him the rock.
Well, the football world is far from perfect, so of course, that scenario is just a distant dream for anyone who is a fan of Beckham
When it comes to OBJ and Cleveland, it simply just didn’t work out the way we all envisioned it once we found out that the Browns had traded for him. He and now Carolina quarterback Baker Mayfield could never get on the same page. It was essentially a square block trying to fit into a round space.
In 29 games wearing orange and browns, Beckham caught 114 passes on 210 targets for 1,586 yards and seven touchdowns. He also rushed for an electrifying touchdown against the Cowboys in a game where his best friend and former Browns contagious leader, Jarvis Landry, threw him a touchdown pass. Sadly, we did not get more of those games.
Beckham tore his ACL in the 2020 season and was not a part of the playoff run the Browns went on. In fact, Mayfield seemed to play better without OBJ on the field. The next season was supposed to be the redemption. There was Camp Baker and a lot of focus on getting things, but things never got right, in fact, they got ugly.
We all know how that story played out with the release. No need to delve fully back into that ordeal. Beckham was able to sign with the Rams and was not relied upon to be the go-to receiver on the team with Cooper Kupp holding things down. He didn’t even have to be the second of third option and was still highly productive for the Rams, helping them win the Super Bowl. Beckham caught two of three targets for 52 yards and a touchdown but suffered yet another torn ACL.
Beckham won’t be in any rush to sign with a team as he won’t be cleared until at least October, but that is not stopping players from recruiting him. One of Beckham’s best friends, Von Miller, was trying to convince OBJ to chase another ring with him in Buffalo. That is another team that he would not be called on as the top receiver on the roster. He would thrive with Josh Allen slinging the rock to him.
The Rams aren’t by any means out of the running. They have said they’d love to bring Beckham back to try and run it back. Beckham already knows the offense and the team is good enough that he wouldn’t have to rush back on the field. He is positioned to help whoever he signs with at a similar time as last season when he went to Los Angeles.
Despite the injury, Odell Beckham Jr. is in a prime spot to compete for another Lombardi Trophy and as a fan of his, I’m very excited for him.
