No. 2: Josh Dobbs, quarterback

With Deshaun Watson slated to miss at least the first six games quarterback, Josh Dobbs is likely to start the season as the backup to Jacoby Brissett. In Dobbs’s career, he has only attempted 17 passes in regular season action. Getting game reps and showing the Browns what he can provide to the room matters more than most third-string quarterbacks in the league.

Friday night he had a really impressive outing against the 2nd and 3rd string players for the Jaguars. He showed poise in the pocket, athletic ability, and that he could make the right decisions when extending plays to buy time. His floating touchdown pass to rookie Jerome Ford after it looked like he would take off to run is a perfect example of using the athletic ability to fool the defense and take advantage to make a big play.

There is a reason that Dobbs hasn’t played much in his career but looking at his abilities on Friday you can see why the Browns like having him around. He is a smart guy that can make just enough plays if he is thrust into some action in the early season while the team waits on Watson’s return.
