4. Anthony Schwartz is still unpolished, to say the least

Last year, Anthony Schwartz found himself in the news for the wrong reasons. The third-round pick was accused of giving up on a route against the Houston Texans in Week 2, and the pass from Baker Mayfield wound up being intercepted.

Mayfield then tackled the ball carrier and wound up with a partially torn shoulder labrum. For the remainder of the season, Mayfield struggled with his health and Schwartz took a lot of heat. Ahead of this campaign, the young receiver voiced his frustration about taking the brunt of the blame and was hopeful to put it all behind him.

Unfortunately, his play in Week 1 of the preseason won’t help.

Schwartz was targeted three times by Deshaun Watson in the first quarter and had no receptions to show for it. In his defense, the first pass was an overthrow by Watson but the other two were catchable balls that Schwartz simply whiffed on.

Drafted at just 21 years old, Schwartz was expected to be a project player. He has world-class speed but until he learns to be more consistent when it comes to catching the ball, it won’t matter how fast he is.

With Cleveland avoiding a veteran free agent addition, they’ve shown faith in players such as Schwartz but this game showed he still has room to grow.
