Browns Surprise Player No. 2 – Jerome Ford

The Cleveland Browns came into the 2022 season with a ton of depth at running back, but after the Week 1 performance by Jerome Ford, there are a lot of people wanting this guy to get some snaps in 2022. I’m not saying he is anywhere near as good as Nick Chubb, but on 10 carries and four catches he wracked up 102 total yards and two touchdowns.

These weren’t just wide-open runs and catches either, he was elusive in the hole, made quick decisions, and ran away from defenders when he was given the chance. We knew this kid from Cincinnati had a ton of talent, but I think it would be a lie to say you weren’t surprised at the type of production he had in his first game.

With Chubb, Kareem Hunt, D’Ernest Johnson, Demetric Felton, and Ford all fighting for a roster spot, Felton could easily be the odd man out unless he can make the roster as a slot receiver. Additionally, suppose Hunt wants to continue to press the issue on a new contract. In that case, Andrew Berry may be extremely motivated to find a trade partner to help the Browns roster in other areas.

This is a very small sample size, but Ford looked like a No. 2 running back in his first ever NFL action which is might impressive.
