No. 2 – Anthony Schwartz, Wide Receiver

I catch a lot of flack when I say the Cleveland Browns are going to release Anthony Schwartz, but as poor as this room is, I think it’s time to move on. Schwartz is the classic example that speed isn’t everything in the NFL. I know the Browns moved on from Jarvis Landry, but he is the prime example that you can make a career out of elite route running and elusiveness.

Berry moving on from the 2021 third-round pick is all but admitting defeat. The key to a good general manager is finding good players, the key to an elite general manager is knowing when to move on and admit you were wrong.

Schwartz struggles to catch the ball and only has one route in his tree which is vertical. The Browns tried to use him in a few gadgets plays last season, but as soon as the film was out he never had a good statistical game.

I’m not sure Schwartz will ever be a starting caliber wide receiver in the league, but his elite track speed will undoubtedly give him another shot in the league. A team with a top-loaded wide receiver room will be chomping at the bit to bring him in as a vertical specialist.

Unfortunately, with the Browns lack of talent and depth at the position, they will need to clear room to bring in another guy to compete for the second or third spot on the depth chart.
