Player No. 2: Drew Forbes

The Drew Forbes experience has been an interesting one in Cleveland. When the Browns first selected Forbes in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL draft, the team thought that they found a diamond in the rough. There were rumblings that the Browns thought that Forbes could eventually work himself into becoming the team’s starting left tackle.

During the 2019 preseason, Forbes was one of the big talking points coming out of camp. Forbes was competing with Austin Corbett for the starting right guard spot and looked to have the edge in the competition. Unfortunately, the rookie suffered an injury that landed him on the IR and the team would have to wait to see what they had in the Southeast Missouri State product.

Fast forward a year, and Forbes would be competing for the right guard spot, yet again, but this time the competition was with Wyatt Teller. From all indications, it was a fairly even competition with neither player pulling away from the other. However, Forbes chose to opt out of the 2020 season due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, and Teller would go on to earn Second-Team All-Pro honors.

Now, two years later, Forbes is staring down the barrel of being an odd man out of a very talented interior offensive line room. With Joel Bitonio and Teller as the unquestioned starters, and proven backups Michael Dunn and Blake Hance firmly entrenched, Forbes is most likely playing in a Browns uniform for the final time on Saturday. The best that Forbes can hope for at this point is that he puts some good tape out there for other squads to give him a look after Tuesday’s cut-downs.

But if he does somehow clear waivers, there is an outside chance he could wind up on the Browns practice squad. The NFL is a crazy business, Forbes went from the best-kept secret in the 2019 draft to not making the roster in a span of four years.
