After staying quiet about his past with Browns, Baker Mayfield finally comes to true form and gives his thoughts on the Week 1 matchup.

Ever since schedules were announced, fans of the Cleveland Browns have known that the Week 1 matchup vs. the Carolina Panthers was going to be interesting. Not only is it the first game post the Baker Mayfield era, but it’s also vs. the former No. 1 pick who took the organization to the playoffs for the first time in nearly 20 years.

I don’t think even Mayfield would deny that he plays with a chip on his shoulder every single snap. After walking on the Texas Tech and eventually winning the Heisman Trophy in Oklahoma, part of his weekly preparation is to let fans know they shouldn’t sleep on him.

The biggest surprise this offseason is that we haven’t heard more shots at the Browns from the former starting quarterback. But, with a shot of confidence after a preseason game where he was 9-of-15 with 89 yards and two touchdowns, he was finally ready to call his shot.

In an interview with a Bills sideline reporter, Mayfield shared, “I’m gonna [expletive] them up.”  Now if that isn’t the Mayfield we all know and love in Cleveland, I don’t know what is.

Which Baker Mayfield shows up in Week 1?

The real question now is, which Mayfield will we see in week one?

Will we see the Mayfield that gets antsy in the pocket and creates a lot of his own pressure and a few forced throws that could easily turn to interceptions?

Or will we see a cool and calm Mayfield who stands in the pocket, takes the checkdown, and runs the offense as intended? I know I’ve seen a guy who could take a team to the Super Bowl, and I’ve seen a guy where I have no idea how he was drafted No. 1.

One thing is for sure, Mayfield will be motivated for this week one game, and the Browns better show up ready for a fight.
