5 Bold predictions for Cleveland Browns 2022 season
By Randy Gurzi
2. Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt top 1,000 yards
The Browns have the best running back corps in the NFL and it starts with their dynamic duo of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt. Chubb is one of the best in the entire NFL and Hunt is a former NFL rushing champ who could easily start for several teams in the league.
Cleveland is fortunate to have them both and running back coach Stump Mitchell says we haven’t even seen the best of either player. First talking about Hunt, he stated (via Scott Petrak of Browns Zone) that “you all have not seen the best of Kareem, by no stretch of the imagination.”
He was then asked about Chubb, and the reaction was even better with Mitchell proclaiming “hell no, we haven’t seen the best of Nick Chubb yet.” He even offered up suggestions on how each player can get better, starting with Hunt.
"“He was physical, but he didn’t give his offensive linemen an opportunity sometimes to make the blocks because he cut too fast. But that’s because of his hunger. I’ve got to teach him to be a little more patient. Because he’s by far much better than a 4.9-yards-per-carry back.”"
A back that averages 4.9 yards per rush is pretty good but Mitchell believes that’s not what Hunt is, but that he’s even better than that. For Chubb, preached patience and knowing when to attack the defenders. Like Hunt, Chubb is already playing out of his mind, so the idea of improving at all is enticing.
With Cleveland needing to lean more heavily on these two while Watson is suspended, this could be the season they both top 1,000 yards. It would be the first pair of Browns running backs to do so since Kevin Mack and Earnest Byner in 1984 and would cement this duo as the absolute best in franchise history.
