3. Delpit finds redemption
One player who has been criticized harshly following the loss to New York is safety Grant Delpit. A second-round pick from LSU, Delpit missed his entire rookie season in 2021 due to a ruptured Achilles which was suffered early in training camp.
He returned in 2021 and was a bit slow out of the gate. He started to turn a corner as the season went on which led to high expectations for him this year. Delpit started out on the right foot, securing an interception against Baker Mayfield during their win over the Panthers.
However, things went south after that play. Delpit was beaten in coverage a couple of times and that continued in Week 2. The biggest was the 66-yard touchdown to Corey Davis that gave New York a shot at the comeback — which appeared to have been on Delpit.
That play led to a lot of chirping during media sessions as players were lining up to say that wasn’t their fault. They’re now scheduling a player’s only meeting, which is always a terrible sign for any sports team.
Even with that ominous feeling, Delpit is a talented player who can turn it around. He’s also facing an offense that hasn’t tested anyone deep, which should allow the third-year safety to find some redemption by making a big play and causing a turnover. Hopefully that will be enough to turn things around for him.
