No. 1: Martin Emerson, Cornerback

There were plenty of questions in April when the Browns selected cornerback Martin Emerson with their first selection in the third round. It wasn’t just the player but the position one that a lot of fans thought the team had plenty of good players out. But due to injury Emerson has been thrust into more playing time and he has shown he is more than up to the challenge.

In the modern NFL, you cannot have enough corners and Emerson has been a perfect example of this. With Denzel Ward missing time and the defense struggling, they needed plays to be made out of the rookie. His physicality and toughness have been really impressive he doesn’t shy away from contact and it has been a big part of his success so far.

If Ward returns to the field and his pro bowl level of play the Browns will have three really impressive young corners. Having that when most teams have multiple receivers that can make plays is exactly what you need to counter the modern passing attacks.

So far so good for rookie Martin Emerson and the Browns continue to be able to identify talent at one of the league’s most important positions.
