Defensive standout No. 1: Tony Fields

There was a coming out party for a Browns defender in Houston last Sunday. Don’t be offended if you didn’t receive your RSVP. It was more of a surprise party.

Tony Fields was the guest of honor at NRG stadium. Fields had himself quite the day against the Texans. In only his second NFL start at Will linebacker, Fields checked about every possible box on the stat sheet as humanly possible.

Fields had four tackles, one fumble recovery, one forced fumble (that should have attributed to Takitaki), and an interception that he turned for a touchdown. The second-year linebacker basically had a defensive hat trick.

This is a prime example of a young player taking every advantage of his situation. The Browns linebacker corps has been riddled with season ending injuries and now Fields is getting his opportunity to show that he belongs on the field. With Takitaki now out for the season with a torn ACL, Fields will be among the players that will be called upon to pick up the slack.

But if his performance on Sunday is any indication of what his future holds, then Fields could make a case of these final five games to be a permanent fixture on this defense.
