Cleveland Browns head coach candidate No. 2: Shane Steichen, Eagles OC

Unlike most of the names on this list, Shane Steichen doesn’t have a long history of working with established coaches, but he’s still an up-and-coming talent that happens to be a part of the best team in the NFL right now.

Just one year after barely making the playoffs with nine wins, the Philadelphia Eagles are the best team with a record of 12-1. They’re doing it with a balance between offense and defense as they’re first in the NFL in scoring and seventh in points allowed.

On offense, they’re led by Jalen Hurts who has made a huge leap that began during the 2021 season when he first started to work with Steichen, who was hired by Nick Sirianni as the offensive coordinator. Now with a full year under their belt together, Hurts has gone from a quarterback with a laundry list of questions to a legitimate MVP candidate.

Sirianni gets a lot of the credit as a former offensive coordinator but Steichen deserves just as much. Not only has he helped Hurts make the most of his talent, but he was also the offensive coordinator when Justin Herbert was a rookie with the Los Angeles Chargers. He’s been labeled as hugely instrumental in that development and the same is said of his work with Hurts.

Should he land in Cleveland, he could be the one to help Deshaun Watson not only return to form but make the most of his talents.

A bright offensive mind that knows how to create mismatches, Steichen will be a hot name this offseason and if the Browns make a move, he needs to be high on the list.
