Browns Position to Target No. 1: Defensive Tackle

As much as I would love for Berry and the Cleveland Browns to sign a running back and offensive lineman in free agency, I just don’t think it will happen. However, at defensive tackle not only do I see the Browns signing a bigger-name free agent, but I think you will also see them draft a player at the position.

In 2022 we saw Jordan Elliott, Taven Bryan, Tommy Togiai, and Perrion Winfrey, with none of them being consistently good. With all but Bryan (likely not resigned) returning, this is also a position where you will likely see a guy who has played a lot of snaps on this defense get cut.

The current roster is full of guys who have the ability to rush the passer, but not one guy who is above average at plugging up a run gap. The Browns need to draft a defensive tackle who not only has size, but the discipline to not get upfield and open even bigger holes in the interior of the line.

This roster has plenty of holes on it currently, but don’t be shocked to see the Browns draft a defensive tackle with their first pick in the 2023 draft (Round 2). Berry has refused to address this issue for the last three years, and I think the time is finally here.

The newly acquired defensive coordinator, Jim Schwartz, is known for having an elite defensive tackle in his defense, so I’m sure he’ll be in his ear barking just as much as fans.
